PM Gonsalves announces Nov. 27 date for general elections

Vincentians are due to go to the polls on November 27, 2085.

Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves announced the date for the general elections during his Unity Labour Party’s political rally at the Grammar School Playing Field Tuesday night.

“I had moved a motion for parliament to start tomorrow again at ten o’clock at a sitting. But, as of now, immediately, there will be no parliament tomorrow.

“It is now decision time for our free and democratic people in free and fair elections for you to choose between the ULP and the NDP; and to choose between De Comrade and the novice, Canadian Lorraine Friday who resides in Bequia, to lead StVincent and the Grenadines in the next government,” Gonsalves said.

Gonsalves further stated: Earlier today, as required under Section 48 of the Constitution of St Vincent and the Grenadines, I advised Her Excellency the Governor General to dissolve parliament with immediate effect this evening,October 28, 2025. He “Excellency has accepted her Prime Minister’s advice and has issued the necessary instrument, the Proclamation to be published of the dissolution of Parliament as of tonight.”

Gonsalves said all constitutional and legal matter have been put in train for general elections.

General elections will be held on Thursday November 27, 2025,” Gonsalves announced to a thunderous applause.

Gonsalves said it will be a day of thanksgiving and rejoicing for Labour on the people of St Vincent and the Grenadines.

“This election is the mother of all elections,” Gonsalves said.

The opposition New Democratic Party (NDP) was at the time holding a public meeting at Calliaqua in the East St George constituency. The MC of the meeting kept the audience of what was happening at the ULP’s rally.

“I tell the printers at the Government Printery who’re waiting on me, there’s a document, signed by the Governor General, which is to go to the printery tonight. I tell them that I will not loiter after nine o’clock. I ain’t waiting too long. I won’t keep them too long.

“And the NDP, you’re listening to me: Hear me well. as a boy from country, I tell you, it’s ain’t long rope that does heng (hang) cattle; is short rope, and the rope is getting shorter and shorter,” Gonsalves said on the verge of announcing the election date.

On November 27, 2025, the ULP will be seeking an unprecedented sixth consecutive term in office, having first been elected in the March, 2001, general elections.
