The Royal St Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force (RSVGPF) said Saturday they had launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding a shooting which occurred at about 9:34 p.m last Friday at Calder.
Police said officers, responding to a report, went to the scene.
In a press release on Saturday, police said a 34-year old resident of Biabou sustained gunshot injuries and was transported for emergency medical treatment.
The police press release did not name the gunshot victim, saying “the individual” was “warded in the Intensive Care Unit at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital.” Other reports, however, identified the victim as Omro Pereira.
It is understood that there was a dispute surrounding the use of the road.
Pereira was shot during the dispute.
It is understood Pereira underwent surgery involving his lungs and small intestine and was in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
Police said a 35-year old resident of Calder was in police custody assisting officers with their investigation.
“This matter remains active. Further updates will be provided at the appropriate time and in a manner that does not jeopardise the integrity of the investigation,” the RSVGPF press release stated.
